The Irrigation Department has in co-operation with the Ministry for Progress of Border areas & National Races and Development Affairs, assisted in rural water supply schemes and consctruction of village irrigation facilities. The works accomplished, region wise, since (1989-90) is furnished below:-

(w) Development of National Races and Border Areas
The Government of State Law and Order Restoration Council is accomplishing numberous projects for Development of National Races and Border Areas to enable the National Races of Same status with mainland people in economic and social sectors. Irrigation Department is participating in these projects for producing sufficient foods in village level, and for accomplishing water supply projects by constructing dams and other related structures. Selection of suitable sites, investigation on feasibility of the projects, calculation of estimated costs are done by the Department based on the actual conditions of each project site and the most suitable structures are being constructed in the border areas.

Altogether (48) irrigation projects had been accomplished by the Irrigation Department benefitting (39,086) acres of agricultural land in border areas. Number of works in each region are as follows with benefitting areas.
