The tempo of irrigation works continued after independence, and those undertaken from the attainment of independence to 1961-62 are furnished below. The principle diversion weirs accomplished during the duration were, the Shwelay Chaung Weir, Thitchetin Weir, Ginpeik Weir and Mayarman Weir, Bago Dvision; the Palin Weir and Kinpundaung Weir, Magway Division; and the Khetkha Weir, Pwesar Weir, Nyaungaing Weir, Wetkamu Weir, Thadit Weir and Nyopin Weir, Mandalay Division. Among the principle Tanks established were the Gyogyar Tank in Sagaing Division and the Pyu, Taungpulu,
Kyini, Mintha, Thitson, Eilar and Pinthaung Tanks in Mandalay Division.

The following are major irrigation works out of (50) irrigation projects completed during the period between independence and 1961-62.
(a) Thitson Reservoir
Thitson eservoir is situated in Yamethin Township of Mandalay Division. Its dam length is (3,620) feet and dam is (81) feet high. Full-tank capacity of the reservoir is (52,242) acre-feet to be able to irrigate (20,708) acres of agricultural land. The length of the main canal is (8) miles an its distributary canals are (12.8) miles in total. Thitson dam is constructed during 1959-60 to 1961-62.

(b) Taung Pulu Reservoir
Taung Pulu reservoir is situated in Wundwin Township of Mandalay Division. Its dam length is (950) feet and dam is (40) feet high. Full-tank capacity of the reservoir is (20,087) acre-feet to be able to irrigate (7,636) acres of agricultural land. The length of the main canal is (0.36) mile. Taung Pulu dam had been completely constructed in 1954-55 and since then used.
